Steel Drum Wood Stove 101

We started with two steel drums and a kit purchased from Northern Tool. The kit is about $40. Fires were set in the drums to burn off any remnants of debris & paint. Holes were then cut out for the chimney, chute and door. The lids of the drums need to be facing what will be the back of the stove. The legs and supports are then attached.

Another fire is set and allowed to burn off any additional traces of toxic materials from drums.
Flew and collar
The logic of this design is simple. While fires burn in the bottom drum, heat is allowed to collect in the upper drum - ultilizing as much of the heat as possible
The interior is then lined with fire bricks. A mesh steel plate is also required. It needs to rest on the bricks about 7-8" from the bootom of the drum. This allows the fire to recieve good airflow for effecient burning. More bricks are placed on either side of the plate.

A chimney is attached and fire chualk is used around all bolts, joints and cut out areas. The bottom lid reattached, and BOOM - wood burning stove. Instant warm faeries - just add wood.
